Every few months we get up in the mountains for area familiarization training. These outings help us learn the terrain and trail conditions, and help us be better prepared for the actual callouts that typically happen at night and possibly in bad weather. Lake Tahoe borders the Carson City municipality on the west, and includes Skunk Harbor. It’s about 1.5 miles down to the shore, and multiple trails lead through the woods and meadows. On this particular day in August we worked on our navigation skills using GPS, Map, and Compass. A very pretty place to do training!
