Your CCSSAR works directly for the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. The unit supports the Operations and Detective Divisions while also providing assistance to Carson City’s Fire Department, Parks, BLM, USFS, and neighboring counties as needed.
Often working independently, CCSSAR employs people like you by both unit and Personally Owned Vehicles in response to missions such as wilderness, urban, and evidence searches, wildfire evacuations, and local public relations events.
Our unit is responsible for the 153 square miles, from El Dorado Canyon to Lake Tahoe, of Nevada’s wilderness and urban terrain. Physical fitness is required. As a Team Member, you must develop and maintain a strong understanding of orienteering by means of Global Positioning System (GPS) as well as map and compass, have a working ability to use VHF radio communication, provide First Aid, and follow FEMA’s Incident Command System.
Training requirements are broad and have the real-life need to maintain the skills needed to serve our community. Because of this, training and practical requirements can be demanding. And, they are all in addition to any mission call-outs. Members must be prepared to attend meetings and perform field exercises monthly. Additionally, specialized courses are also provided to personnel for certification in Rope Rescue and Swift Water Rescue.
